share it with you.

As you all know by now –Gremlin & Goblin have surprised us with two of the cutest babies ever, well since the last two were born. These new babies seem to be a little friendlier as they have been raised in the Reception.

Heaven knows why she chose to raise her babies there, but because of the sounds and the guests coming and going we think her babies are going to be a lot more tolerant towards us than Gizmo and Gadget are. I was able to tickle them on their cute little heads yesterday, just before she decided to move them higher up away form the Pierot the Parrot who was visiting at the time.

The other bit of excitement is that Jangles the male rhino and one of the neighbours rhino have been going at each other through the fence and completely mangled it to the extent it took two teams of workers all day to fix. Of course we know that Jangles is a young juvenile and he is testing his testosterone against this bigger bull – its always easier on the other side of the fence and ‘boys will be boys’ only this time the other got a little angrier, and now both of them are ‘on the other side’ due to the huge fight that must have gone on during that day, and now we have four visiting rhinos.

Good work you may say trading two for four – only they are our babies and we want them back…

We will with the assistance of the neighbours go looking for them, and thank heaven they have identification markings which will make it easy to spot them. It is going to be another huge and costly process, but come home they must.

However, we cannot bring Jangles back until we have removed the other male who maybe a threat to him. We have been told that he is an aggressive rhino – and we will keep tabs on him until he can be relocated.

This afternoons report back is that all three females are now back home and they will try to find the other male tomorrow morning – so that we can get our big babies back………….Oh goodness it never rains – it pours!!!

The Day Care Centre

I have been promising for some time to let you know what’s happening and recently we had some wonderful volunteers who with the help of George who went and completed the final stages of putting up guttering, (to harness the rain water) and fencing around the vegetable garden to keep the stray animals out.

From the very humble beginnings in a run down shed with a few children to care for, Maria now has 45 children she and her helpers look after.

They have a wonderful little school house where they are taught numbers, rhymes, and a much cleaner yard in which to play on the swings that have been erected. There is a better kitchen in which to cook the meals and all in all a very successful but ‘on going’ project.

I’d like to give a huge big warm thank you to Denise & George Lloyd who have so tirelessly devoted time and effort in assisting & training Maria to get where she is today. I’d also like to thank everyone, who donated money, toys, books and food to the project without your help it may not have got to this point.

We now try to raise funds for incidentals, by printing beautiful postcards of photographs taken by our guests and selling them in our curio shop. What better way to ‘show off’ your lovely photographs of our animals and to get them out there in the world for other people to see.

All the proceeds going towards the fund for the Day Care Centre.

More good news

With the successful introduction of our Big5 drives we will now be offering our guests trips into the Kruger National Park, on a full day package.

Until next month bye for now.

Shelly
